Fundraising of 200 years ago – stark similarities of today
“In the first place, I advise you to apply to all those who you know will give something: next to those of whom you are uncertain whether they will give anything or not, and show them the list of those who have given: and lastly, do not neglect those who you are sure will give nothing: for in some of them you may be mistaken.”

--- Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

In 1997, the Board of Governors asked our community to imagine what the Winnetka Community House could be in the next millennium. Through surveys, focus groups, interviews, study of other community centers, and pilot program testing, the Board developed a vision that preserves traditional strengths while focusing on three comprehensive areas:

• Health and wellness

• Early childhood and youth enrichment

• Special events and the arts

Our community called upon this facility to expand, renovate, and revitalize. Now, eight new beautiful special events rooms, a ceramics studio and two new exercise rooms are in full use. The expanded Fitness Centre, refurbished gymnasium and rejuvenated Arches Garden are worthy of great pride. For the first time in its history, this facility is fully accessible to people who use wheelchairs.

Thanks to caring community leaders, we have raised $11.4 million toward this venture. A remaining $1.9 million is still needed.

No one will ever underestimate the magnitude of this endeavor nor forget the people who made it possible. Please support the Winnetka Community House in completing this endeavor.
