WCH is offering new Yoga classes powered by Reach Yoga!

Winnetka Community House has partnered with Reach Yoga to bring new Yoga classes this spring and summer! Check out classes for all ages including Yoga for Kids, Introduction to Yoga and Gentle Introduction to Yoga for Active Seniors.

Introduction to Yoga

For those who have never (or barely) tried yoga. For four weeks, you and a group of other new students will learn basic poses and sequences, along with the benefits of yoga. Class is conducted at a gentle pace with plenty of time for individual instruction, questions, and answers. By the end of the series, you will be ready to confidently participate in Basics and Level 1 classes (or beyond!). Please register in advance, as space is limited. We recommend that participants be able to move from sitting to standing and vice versa.

Gentle Introduction to Yoga for Active Seniors

For adults (targeted to those 60+) who have never (or barely) tried yoga. For four weeks, you and a group of other new students will learn basic poses and sequences, along with the benefits of yoga. Class is conducted at a gentle pace with plenty of time for individual instruction, questions, and answers. The instructor will explain how typical yoga poses and sequences can be modified for individuals with limited flexibility or specific limitations. By the end of the series, you will be ready to confidently participate in Basics and Level 1 classes (or beyond!). Please register in advance, as space is limited. We recommend that participants be able to move from sitting to standing and vice versa.

Yoga for Kids

Your kids learn fun yoga poses to enhance flexibility while building strength, coordination & body awareness. Students experience traditional yoga poses, creative movement, stories, songs, games, and meditation to create a fun, centering, active class. Yoga encourages self-esteem and body awareness with a physical activity that’s noncompetitive. Partner poses and cooperative yoga games inspire positive peer interactions that they can carry into everyday lives. Students will grow their ability to recognize and hold poses, as well as regulate their breathing, focus, and emotions. Participants can dress for expression and movement. Mats are provided. Please bring a water bottle.

Vinyasa Flow Yoga, Level 1–2, with Mia Cutler;
Tuesdays, 9:15–10:15am, Room 212

For students interested in moving through a flowing sequence of yoga poses. Classes typically incorporate sun salutations, and flow through a variety of standing poses, balancing poses, and seated poses. Focus is on linking movement to breath, refining alignment, and building strength. Generally accompanied by music. Suitable for students with some yoga experience. This class also offers options for the experienced student to incorporate more advanced poses. Starts May 1.
