Winnetka Community House offers performing arts programming for every interest!

The Winnetka Dance Studio offers all levels and types. Ballet, Jazz, Tap, and Ballroom are just a few. In June, participants in our youth classes perform in our annual Dance Recital.

Matz Hall is one of the North Shore’s most historic and active theaters. We partner with Skyline Studios to offer young children an acting experience they’ll never forget.

We also offer music classes for all ages. The Music Institute of Chicago offers Musikgarten classes for parents and babies. Guitar and Piano lessons are also available for all ages.

This class is for beginner to advanced guitarists of all ages. Students of this course have learned: lead guitar, rhythm guitar, singing while playing, songwriting, improvising, how to figure out songs by ear, and much more! Students of this course have learned styles ranging from Pop, to Rock, Blues, Folk, Classical, Bossa Nova, Flamenco, and beyond. Let your child become a Rock Star! Each week, your child will learn about different rock/pop instruments such as guitar (acoustic & electric), electric bass, keyboards, violin, drums and percussion, as well as voice (using a microphone). Our fun "hands-on" approach will give your child a strong musical foundation, learning the theory behind music as well as the fundamentals. An introduction to musical theatre! Broadway tots will explore the beginning fundamentals of theatre and working together to perform. Broadway tots will act, sing and dance to well known Mary Poppins Jr. songs! Family and friends are invited to join us at the last class, December 6, to see these young stars shine! Each actor will receive a rehearsal CD for practice at home. Attendance is an essential component of a performance program. If two practices are missed, student parts may be reassigned. Arriving more than 30 minutes late/leaving early will count as an absence. No make-up classes will be offered. Please help your child practice and memorize at home so your actor feels confident on stage. Please be prompt in arrival and dismissal times. All rehearsals are closed (no parents or guests watching). Actors are required to bring their scripts to every rehearsal. There will be no refunds after the first week of classes. By the end of class, you will be ready to take center stage and shine as one of the stars in Mary Poppins Jr. Each cast member will receive a rehearsal CD and script for practice at home. All actors involved in the Broadway Stars will have a chance to perform on stage at Winnetka Community House. Performance dates (actors will perform in one show) December 3-9, 2018. 3...2...1...Action! What do I prepare for my audition? Have no fear, Skyline is here! Join the Directors of Skyline Studios to learn how to give a fabulous audition for Mary Poppins Jr. We will explore the essentials of a singing, dancing, and acting audition. No previous experience necessary, just a willingness to have fun! Must be registered for Broadway Stars Mary Poppins Jr. to participate in this audition workshop.

As part of the Nutcracker Gems and Spring Recital, we will be offering a fun and creative class for those who wish to perform in the recitals, but in more of a character role. There will be dance taught in the class, along with stage presence, performance skills and audition techniques. Not only will this class offer you the opportunity to perform in both recitals, but it will build your confidence as a performer. Taught by stage veteran, Marc Nevins, you will have a lot of fun while gaining new skills.All ages are welcome, males also encouraged to enroll.

Participate with your toddler in singing, chanting, moving, dancing, listening and playing simple instruments while developing a strong musical bond with your child. Through activities that bridge the natural connection between music and movement, your child?s musical aptitude and focused listening abilities are enhanced and further developed. Celebrate your child's love of nature and growing independence through activities that focus on the seasons of the year. Classes are designed to build attention span, self-expression, and language development. Components include singing, chanting, moving, focused listening, musical games, instrument exploration, creative movement, as well as stories for children to act out and embellish.
